Biography
Indoor Percussion
Marching Band
Eric Thornbury has been coordinating custom marching shows, writing drill, and directing bands for 33 years in Indiana. He is currently the Director of Bands for Noblesville Schools, a suburban school district near Indianapolis.
Eric marched with the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps in 1989 and 1990. He began writing drills by hand in 1991. Thornbury now designs on Pyware. Custom packages will include accurate video animation, drill charts, student coordinate sheets, and UDB uploads as desired.
Eric is a trumpet player who enjoys playing when possible and is a proud husband and father with a blended family of 5 children.

Eric Thornbury has been fortunate to help design and write for Noblesville's Indoor Percussion Program 2018 - 2024.
Noblesville's percussion was promoted to Indiana Percussion Scholastic A Movement in 2018 and to WGI and IPA Open Class in 2024. NIPE has made IPA State Finals every year since 2018 and are a 3 time WGI National Finalist.

I started using Eric as my drill writer in 2008 when I was at Tri-Central. Over my career I’ve had 3 different drill writers but Eric has consistently provided us with a clean drill design that maximizes our student musicians and performers. Since 2021, Eric has written shows that has led Marion to 3 consecutive Indiana State Fair Band Day Top 16 finishes, a first in school history.
Here’s what I know about Eric’s designs- students absolutely love them and my staff and I love them. During the planning process, if we see something we don’t like or quite understand he is always willing to either change it or explain it in even more detail. Instructions provided for the students and staff are excellent and drill videos provided are a great teaching tool.
Finally, Eric’s a band director. He’s been at small schools, urban schools, and suburban schools. He understands our kids and works to provide them with everything tool imaginable to make them successful. He is with us every step of the way and provides us feedback throughout our season.
Eric is the best drill writer I’ve ever had and I would highly recommend using Eric for your next marching band show!
